Help Me Stay in My Son’s Life – Moving to Kentucky to Be with my son

Hi, my name is: Jordan Harris

and I’m reaching out to ask for your help during one of the most challenging and emotional times in my familys life.

For the past three years, I’ve been in a legal battle over custody of my son. I’ve been there for him since the day he was born—through every milestone, every scraped knee, every bedtime story. He is my heart, and being his father is the greatest gift I’ve ever been given.

Recently, the court granted his mother—a woman I’ve worked hard to co-parent with—a move-away order due to her husband’s job relocation. She’s now going to move to Kentucky with our son. While I respect the court’s decision and wish them well, this has left me with a heartbreaking reality: If I stay here in Bakersfield, I risk becoming a summertime dad. A voice on the phone. A visitor. And that’s not the father I want to be.

I’m also married and have a supportive partner who shares my commitment to our family. But right now, we are facing serious financial struggles, and the cost of relocating across the country is more than we can manage on our own.

That’s why I’m humbly asking for your support. I am raising funds to help cover the cost of moving to Kentucky—expenses like travel, housing, basic furniture, and getting re-established so I can be close to my son and remain a full-time presence in his life.

This isn’t just about geography—it’s about being there for my son emotionally, mentally, and physically. I want to be the dad who helps with homework, cheers from the sidelines, teaches him how to drive one day, and shows up for everything in between.
