My grandson, Jonah Allen, was born July 12, 2024. At first, he seemed to be a very healthy baby boy; however, a few short weeks later, he started to experience V-tach (a fast heartbeat that occurs when the heart's lower chambers beat too quickly, preventing the heart from pumping enough blood to the body). A normal baby's heartbeat is 120-190 beats per minute, and his spikes to 300 beats per minute. With each episode, they have to stop and restart his little heart to get a normal heartbeat. Jonah has been diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (extra electrical pathways in the heart causing a rapid heartbeat). Because of his age and size, Jonah's only treatment is medication to regulate the heartbeat. At this point, he has had a lengthy stay at John Hopkins Hospital and is now currently at the University of MD Hospital. Regulating his medications will apparently be a battle for the first year of his life with many trips to see a cardiologist. Once he is older, Cardiac Ablation Surgery (to create tiny scars in the heart to block faulty signals that cause the irregular heartbeat) will be possible.
Tiffany Webster's (Jonah's mommy) employment did not offer paid maternity leave, sick time, or vacation time. After having a C-section, she returned to work 4 weeks later to find that her job was closing their doors permanently the very next week. She started new employment, and a week later, Jonah started suffering the V-tach episodes. Tiffany also has a 5-year-old daughter, Mila, and her village has been caring for her so she can be by Jonah's side on his medical journey. Jon, Jonah's dad, has also missed a lot of work to be there for his son.
Although Tiffany has a village to help in every way they can, I am reaching out to family and friends to help in any way they can to keep her family afloat. Every little bit will go a long way. Thank you for your support.
