On behalf of the John Muir Elementary School Parent Leadership Group in San Francisco, we are raising funds to support our school community while on strike. Educators are showing up, unpaid, to the picket lines everyday demanding safe and stable schools for our students. They have been in negotiations with the district since last March and #WeCantWait anymore for:
- Fully funded health care and pay raises: Our newest educators and support staff stand to lose up to 40% of their income each month in order to provide health benefits for their families. We just can’t staff our classrooms when our lowest earners only have 60% of their wages to spend on already expensive San Francisco rent, food, childcare, and other necessities.
- Fully staffed Special Education positions: Our district can stabilize staffing and improve learning conditions by investing in manageable caseloads and special education workloads. Our students deserve to be the priority—not just a number in the district’s attempt to cut costs.
With record inequality in a wealthy city in a wealthy state, we can and must do better for our students.
The funds that have been raised will be donated to John Muir Elementary school and distributed through the Parent Leadership Group to support the teachers and families at our school. The Parent Leadership Group will determine the needs of the community and distribute the funds accordingly.
Thank you for supporting our school and our educators.
