My good friend John was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2019. A proud former Territorial Army soldier and London firefighter of over 26 years, John is now virtually entombed in his body, fully reliant on others for everything. Despite this, he continues to defy the odds and inspire everyone around him.
John and I have taken on some epic challenges to raise awareness and funds for MND and the incredible Pilgrim Bandits Charity, who have been relentless in their support. Their mantra “Always a little further” drives injured veterans and emergency service personnel like John to keep going, no matter what.
Some of our challenges have included:
• Cycling from John O’ Groats to Land’s End on a tandem
• The lemon challenge during lockdown
• Completing the Commando Speed March
• Tandem skydiving over Mount Everest
• Trekking to Everest Base Camp
• A 24-hour lunge challenge (84,000 lunges!)
• A one million kilogram gym lift in 24 hours
And now, thanks to the Pilgrim Bandits, who have provided a specially adapted cargo bike, John will join a new cycle challenge alongside a core team—including Afghan veteran Jonathan Le Galloudec on an adapted tandem.
You can support us by donating, sharing a message of encouragement, or joining us for part of the ride. Come along, cheer us on, or give us a honk if you see us on the road!
