Hello All,
I am raising funds to offset costs of travel and supplies while volunteering in Kerrville, Texas, as a medic on a disaster relief team from The Black 6 Project.
Additional proceeds will go to The Black 6 Project— a veteran-led 501(c)(3) dedicated to humanitarian and disaster relief— to assist further with the Texas floods and beyond. Please read my story below!
My name is Joe Jackson. I served in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman for 6 years. While attached to the United States Marine Corps, I served with 2nd Battalion 5th Marines where I deployed twice-once to Afghanistan and once to South Asia.
I've since continued my passion for medicine by earning my EMT and AEMT while finishing my bachelor's degree in political science.
During that time, the Covid-19 pandemic struck New York City, and I felt compelled to do something for the people around me. I worked overnights at the Ryan Larkin Field Hospital in Inwood.
After the floods in Kerrville, TX, I was informed by a fellow veteran that a team from The Black 6 Project was going to help with disaster relief and was looking for a medic. I knew quickly that I would be able to provide help to people stricken by this historical disaster. The mission of TB6P, "to seek and reach those in need, and satisfy the need to serve and belong,” is something incredibly important to me as a veteran in combat medicine.
I paid my own travel costs associated with this, and while I am lucky to be able to help, I am hopeful I can fundraise for my costs as well as further supporting this nonprofit.
I am asking for my community to consider helping me offset these costs, and I am incredibly grateful for anything I receive. Both a portion of my proceeds, as well as funds surpassing the goal, will be going to The Black 6 Project, where I hope to continue offering my skills.
Thank you so much for any generosity, and please consider sharing this with your network!
