My name is Joseph Albano and I am a Life Scout in Valley Stream Troop 109. As I enter my senior year of high school, I am excited to begin my Eagle Scout Project giving back to the Valley Stream School District 13 community. My project involves the restoration of the sculptures once part of the Chunky Candy Pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair. My goal is to refurbish the “Chunkies” and add to their legacy by installing an informational sign in their current area at James A. Dever school, which is the location of District 13’s administrative offices. The restoration of the six sculptures will consist of cleaning and painting the sculptures, relocating two of them from their current location, and setting them on a concrete base for display for the community. I hope that because of my project, the Valley Stream community will become familiar with the sculptures’ history because of the restored setting and location. I plan on beginning my project this coming Fall, and over the next several weeks, I will be organizing dates to lead and manage my service project, along with the help of family, friend and Scouts in my Troop. The goal of earning the Eagle Scout Rank is very important to me, as this achievement will coincide with Troop 109’s 100-year anniversary with its charter organization, Grace Methodist Church in Valley Stream. My fundraising goal is to raise approximately $1000 to purchase materials and supplies to complete my project. I greatly appreciate your donation. Thank you for your support.
