Support Jillian’s Honored Opportunity as a Woman in Science
Donation protected
As an 11th grader in high school, Jillian is honored and humbled to be the only student from her high school, of almost 1,600 students, to be nominated by her cross-country coach, based on her academics and leadership in her sport, for a prestigious week-long experience at American University in Washington D.C. within the Biotechnology department. Jillian has sought out her coach, principal, and counselor asking for support with scholarships and/or funds to enable her to take part in this week-long learning. Unfortunately, there aren’t any; it is up to her family to cover the cost of the experience and flight. This total cost is $5,000. With both of Jillian’s parents being educators, one focusing on middle school special education and the other on technology for kindergarten through 8th graders, there is 100% value on continuous learning. Experiences, books, and connections are the center of what we strive for Jillian to encounter and grow from. As two teachers, we want our two children to enjoy and increase their knowledge in multiple ways but have constraints due to our public school incomes. We would be extremely appreciative of any funds that would decrease the overall cost. With Jillian’s personality, drive, passion, enthusiasm, and interest in pursuing a career in genetics research, there is no doubt in our minds she will soak up every moment of this experience from the learning, the people, and what the area has to offer! We hope she has the chance to attend. Thank you!
