As hard as it is to ask for our community’s assistance, we find ourselves in a difficult position fighting for joint custody both legally and physically for Jesus’ daughter, Lei.

I’ve created this GFM to help provide my partner, Jesus, with a fighting chance to ensure his bond and relationship with Lei does not become estranged or affected in any way.

Jesus has been a present father throughout Leilani’s life and there are so many witnesses who can attest to this - He is constantly ensuring her needs are not met but exceeded whether it’s necessities, desires, or experiences. He is someone who works to make it all happen, motivated by his daughter.

Lei has developed an amazing bond and relationship with my daughter, Isabelle. Referring to her as her sister, Leilani constantly expresses how much she loves and misses Isabelle. Watching them grow up together since they were 2 & 3 years old has been an emotional but rewarding experience. They confide in each other not only as best friends, but siblings too. As a witness to their bond, I know how much a drastic decrease in parenting time would affect and devastate Lei.

Lei has been such a light in my life. It is an amazing feeling to build a relationship with a bonus baby, who trusts you and loves you just as much as you do them. I am blessed to be able to care for Lei the same way I do for my daughter. Being a step-parent is an opportunity I would never take for granted.

While our family is not traditional, our bond is stronger than most. We would all feel such sorrow and grief without our little Lei.

Jesús ha sido un padre presente a lo largo de toda la vida de Leilani, y hay muchas personas que pueden dar fe de ello. Lei ha desarrollado un vínculo y una relación maravillosa con mi hija, Isabelle. Llamándola su hermana, Leilani expresa constantemente cuánto ama y extraña a Isabelle. Verlas crecer juntas desde que tenían 2 y 3 años ha sido una experiencia emotiva pero gratificante. Se confían mutuamente no solo como mejores amigas, sino como hermanas. Como testigo de ese vínculo, sé cuánto la afectaría y devastaría a Lei una disminución drástica en el tiempo de crianza.

Lei ha sido una luz en mi vida. Es increíble poder construir una relación con una hija extra, que confía en ti y te ama tanto como tú la amas a ella. Me siento bendecida de poder cuidar a Lei de la misma manera que cuido a mi hija. Ser madrastra es una oportunidad que nunca cambiaría.

Aunque nuestra familia no sea tradicional, nuestro vínculo es más fuerte que el de muchos. Todos sentiríamos una gran tristeza y dolor sin nuestra pequeña Lei.
