As many of you know, my sister-in-law, Jessica, was diagnosed with ALS about 18 months ago. Since that time, she & Rick have incurred many expenses, not the least of which was having the house remodeled so that it was more accessible for Jessica. If you know Jess, you know she doesn’t want to have to depend on anyone, so she wanted to maintain as much independence as possible for as long as possible & also make it easier for her family & friends to help her move around easier.

As her illness has progressed, basic travel has become impossible without an accessible vehicle. Each time she needs to go to the hospital, they need to call an ambulance to transport her. She needs a ride each way and at $900 a ride ($1800 round trip), it’s just not sustainable. Medical expenses have increased as Jess’s needs have increased & they will continue to increase.

The girls are home taking care of their mom and Destiny is away at school. Everyone is doing the absolute best they can, but as you can imagine, it is overwhelming for all of them.

Joe & I are creating this GoFundMe in the hopes of helping to ease the burden of some of the expenses that Jess & Rick have as well as upcoming expenses. In addition to easing some financial expenses, we are hoping the additional assistance might help ease their minds a bit, as Jess’s diagnosis hasn’t just been financially overwhelming but emotionally overwhelming as well.
