Support Jessica SERVEing in The Philippines
Donation protected
My name is Jessica. I am a secondary school teacher in Dublin. This summer I will travel to Cebu in The Philippines for 4 weeks to volunteer with SERVE and work with the Badjao Tribe.
The Badjao Tribe are a marginalised community in South East Asia. They are a nomadic, sea-faring community. SERVE’s work with the Badjao tribe is focused on supporting educational initiatives, improving housing and access to healthcare.
The work I will be doing in Cebu will involve working with young people to help support educational initiatives within the community in areas such as English, health & wellbeing. We will also run arts & crafts, drama and music workshops.
As a teacher I am passionate about the potential of young people. As clichéd as it sounds, I want to make a difference in the lives of young people who do not have the same opportunities as we do in Ireland! I hope that my work with the Badjao community might make some small difference.
A little bit about SERVE….
SERVE is a development and volunteering organisation committed to providing equal opportunities for poor communities living in Southern Africa, South-East Asia, and South America.
Inspired by the belief that ‘Solidarity In Action’ can improve the lives of the most vulnerable, SERVE works in partnership with local communities and organisations to offer high-quality vocational and educational learning opportunities, helping young people gain employment or start and develop their businesses.
Since 2003, SERVE has placed over 1,200 volunteers on overseas assignments and contributed over €20 million to development projects.
Your support means so much! Even by sharing this story it may inspire others to show kindness, take action and ‘SERVE in Solidarity’.
All monies raised will go to SERVE (Charity No CHY 18154) towards the cost of the project (flights to The Philippines, accommodation & pre-departure training) resources and initiatives for development within the community.
