My name is Jessica Getridge. I’m married to the most wonderful man. I am also a mother of 3. 2 out of 3 of my children have fragile x syndrome. I am a carrier of fragile x. For anyone who does not know what Fragile x is. Fragile x is genetic disorder caused by changes in a gene called fragile X messenger ribonucleoprotein 1 (FMR1). FMR1 usually makes a protein called FMRP that is needed for brain development. People who have FXS do not make this protein. Those with fragile X-associated disorders have changes in the FMR1 gene but usually still make some of the protein. we took a leap of faith and I am now a stay at home mom because our children need their mother and We wanna bring awareness to this. Not a lot of people know they have fragile X syndrome and some people that have autism have fragile x. They just aren’t tested for it because genetic testing is very expensive.
