After more than two years, I have decided to sue the federal government so that they will do their job. Maria and I have been waiting for them to process her green card application for more than two years. The current normal processing time on the USCIS website is 54 months. It’s inhumane for married couples to be separated from their families for almost five years in order to immigrate legally to the United States. Maria is an Italian citizen and it is perverse that she cannot return home to see her family when I travel there to work simply because we want to live in the U.S..

I am an American citizen and I have repeatedly contacted my Senate and House representatives. Congressmen Carter has even personally called USCIS on our behalf, twice. There is no reason for the delay of Maria’s application. USCIS has simply not taken the hour and a half they need to process the application.

Last week we filed a mandamus which is a lawsuit asking the federal government to do their job. If you are able, I would appreciate any contribution to these legal fees. It’s no wonder we have a problem with illegal immigration in this country when the system of legal immigration does not work.
