Hi, my name is Jaime, and I’m raising funds to support my mom, Jean-Ann Jaques Morton, after a life-changing medical emergency.
A couple of months ago, everything changed. I took my mom to the ER after she started acting erratically, and I learned she had suffered several small strokes. There was nothing physical that had changed to go by, looking for the usual signs; it has shown up mentally. It’s been heartbreaking and surreal to watch someone who has been such a constant presence in my life struggle with memory loss, confusion, and the inability to live safely on her own anymore, even when she was in my own home.
She’s now in a short-term memory care facility where she can get the round-the-clock help she needs. I’m grateful she’s safe, but it has been a sudden emotional and financial shock, and I’m navigating it all, one day at a time.
My mom is almost 80, and one of the things she loves most in this world is her cat, Wolfie. He’s been with her for nearly 14 years, and he’s still staying with me. She misses him deeply, and I’m doing my best to care for him and keep a piece of home close for her.
I’m raising funds to help with the many costs that Medicare and Medicaid don’t cover (Medicaid is still pending), ongoing care expenses, personal needs, medical costs, and all the responsibilities that come with making sure she’s supported and comfortable in this new stage of life. This transition has been overwhelming, and any help truly makes a difference.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for showing kindness during a time that has been incredibly heavy and tender for me. Your support in any form means more than I can say.
With gratitude,
Jaime
