Support JD’s Recovery After Tragic Accident

My husband JD has always been the kind of person who gives to others, even after a difficult childhood and losing his mother at a young age. He’s worked hard to build a good life, and his kindness has touched many people—especially his coworkers, who have been a huge support during this crisis. A few weeks ago, JD was in a near-fatal car accident. He was ejected from the vehicle, suffered severe injuries, and spent a week in a coma on a ventilator. Every bone on the right side of his face was shattered, and he’s had major reconstructive surgery. He’s now in a rehab center, still on a feeding tube and with his jaws wired shut, working hard to regain his strength so he can return to work.

JD is the sole provider for our home, and his accident has left us struggling to cover basic expenses. Our car payment and insurance are overdue, and the insurance will be canceled in two days if we can’t pay. The electric and water bills are both at risk of being disconnected, and credit cards are about to default—something JD worked so hard to avoid. I’ve been borrowing money for gas and food, and we’re down to the last of what we have for our three dogs. I’m doing everything I can, including going to food banks, but JD needs me by his side for emotional support during his recovery, and it’s not possible for me to return to work right now.

We don’t have children at home, but our community has always been important to us. I’ve spent years helping my neighbors furnish homes for people coming out of homelessness, and now I’m hoping that same spirit of support can help us through this crisis.
