In August 2025, Jayma Stroud was admitted to Carbondale Hospital for complaints of left sided numbness and weakness. What she thought might be a pinched nerve turned out to be more complicated and serious. It was during her stay that she learned about some complex medical issues possibly related to a progressive neurological disease. Upon further investigation, her MRIs indicated one lesion (suspected of demyelination) in her cervical spine and two in thoracic spine in addition to concerning findings during her spinal tap. Over the past few months, she has undergone numerous tests to help identify her diagnosis. She was seen at Washington University in October, and was told her case was “not typical”. Doctors are leaning towards a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS); however, some unique characteristics are making this diagnosis more difficult to confidently diagnose. Jayma’s symptoms have also spread to both sides of her body and recent tests noted active lesions and demyelination. Jayma has graciously been accepted to the MAYO Clinic in Rochester, MN!!! This is a huge win as they are selective on the cases they accept, and also very telling. They would like to see her ASAP! She will be traveling on November 30th for a 7-10 day stay. During her stay, she will be meeting with a team of neurologists to develop an assessment plan for while she is there. She is hopeful to come home with a diagnosis and a treatment plan!
We would like to rally around Jayma in hopes to raise money for travel, lodging, transportation, and food expenses while she is gone. Any additional money raised will help fund her ongoing medical bills and appointments that go along with progressive diseases. Thank you so much for your support and love!
