Help Me Give Jayda & Shawn Dean a Safe Home — Before It’s Too Late
My name is Glenn, and for the past 4 months I’ve been the only stable adult in the lives of two incredible kids: Jayda (14) and Shawn Dean (11). Their home life collapsed around them — emotionally, medically, and physically — and I stepped in because no one else did.
I currently hold Durable Power of Attorney and have been acting as their full-time caregiver. I’m also working closely with Child Welfare Services, mental health providers, and school staff to keep them safe and stable.
But right now, we’re at a critical breaking point.
⸻
What These Kids Have Been Living Through
Their home has been declared unsafe — we’re talking:
• Black mold
• Fleas / bites on the kids
• Trash and decay throughout the unit
• No safe sleeping space
• A completely unstable environment
Their mother is now in long-term mental health care after multiple suicide attempts.
CWS, mental health services, and their school have all confirmed what I already knew:
They cannot go back into that house.
⸻
Why This Fundraiser Matters
Child Welfare has given me a deadline to show that I can keep these kids housed, fed, safe, and stable through January, when my CalWORKs support officially begins.
If I cannot demonstrate financial stability right now, the county will place Jayda into state guardianship and split the kids into different homes.
They’ve already lost almost everything.
I will not let them lose each other too.
⸻
Medical Needs
Shawn Dean is a disabled child with severe developmental needs.
He also has a cleft palate and requires ongoing care through UCSF Medical Center — care he will only receive if he stays with a stable guardian.
Breaking his stability now would set him back years.

What This Fund Covers
Every dollar goes directly toward giving these kids the basic safety every child deserves:
• Safe housing (first month + deposit)
• Groceries and essentials
• School transportation
• Clothing, medical appointments, and stability items
• Emergency relocation costs if required by CWS
This is not a “want.”
This is survival.
I’ve spent my life in public service — 33 years in Emergency Management and as a Red Cross Disaster Responder. I’ve deployed to hurricanes, fires, 9/11, tornadoes, international disasters…
But nothing hits harder than watching two kids you love silently collapse in front of you.
⸻
We’re Out of Time
The deadline from CWS is immediate.
I’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do this alone.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your donation could directly save a life — here is your moment.
Please help me keep these kids together.
Please help me give them a safe home.

Thank You
From the bottom of my heart — and from Jayda and Shawn Dean — thank you for even reading this.
And if you can’t donate, sharing this page helps more than you know.
