Support Jaycetyn's Fight Against Brain Cancer

Hi my name is Shalei Lopez,

I am a parent raising my 11 and 9 year old sons. I never thought I would be faced with my 9 year old son, Jaycetyn being diagnosed with a brain stem tumor called D.I.P.G. I want to share my story.

For about the pass month and a half before he was diagnosed with the tumor, I was taking him to his doctor and the emergency room. He complained he had headaches, constant nausea & vomiting, due to the given symptoms he would have stomach ache and no appetite, where he fell even more ill and weak. There has been no medical testing as far as blood work, CT scan or MRI X-rays to find out what was going on with my son, for about a month and a half. His primary care doctor told me it could be parasites, but no testing was done. The ER doctors would continuously tell me it’s migraine headaches, and told me to give him Tylenol for the headaches and prescribed Zofran for the vomiting.

On October 4, 2024, he was at school and he had collapsed. I took him to the emergency room. I told the doctor who attended to my son, that he hit his head when he collapsed, he didn’t hit his head but I felt the need to say just that because giving the history of us being there so constant, I figure they would have just said he was dehydrated from vomiting. The doctor immediately ordered a CT scan and her findings showed that he had a lesion on his brain stem. At that moment I felt like my world was falling apart. She made a call to Kapiolani Medical Center on Oahu, to make arrangements for my son to immediately be transferred over into their care that evening. Doctors at Kapiolani confirmed that he had a brain cancer called D.I.P.G, and because of where the location was it would be inoperable. due to his heart rate and respiration being very low we where kept in the PICU for about a month. He now has a shunt and a valve in his brain, tube feeding and still doing radiation treatments, and on clinical trail that uses chemo to target the tumor.

I am currently on the verge of eviction, my car was repossessed due to attending to my son’s care in Oahu, and being out of work. My current funds is slowly depleted due to essential needs, like food, clothes, medication, etc.

Also made the decision to move me and my family here to Oahu, to be near Jaycetyns medical care, if anything more comes up.
