In honor of Sara Koenig- support Jay & Emmett
Donation protected
Our beloved Sara passed away at just 39 years old, after a courageous 15-month battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She leaves behind her devoted husband, Jay, and their almost two-year-old son, Emmett.
Sara touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth, kindness, and radiant smile. Her generosity, intelligence, and selflessness made the world a better place. She dedicated her life to helping others, both personally and professionally, and her family was always at the center of it all.
Sara’s strength and determination throughout her illness were nothing short of remarkable. Diagnosed with AML on February 16, 2024, she faced unimaginable challenges over the next 15 months. Yet, as long as there were next steps and goals to strive for, she never gave up. Her doctor at John Hopkins said, “She fought as hard as anyone I’ve ever seen fight this disease.” Her will to live reflected her deep love for life and her family.
Sara was incredibly intelligent, independent, and fiercely passionate. She traveled to Kosovo twice in one year to do humanitarian work, driven by her desire to make a difference. Her fierce determination was evident in everything she did.
Sara and Jay met in 2011 during a graduate school program in Kosovo. Their shared commitment to making the world a better place led them to careers in the nonprofit sector. In 2021, they were married, and in 2023, they welcomed their miracle baby, Emmett. Though their time together was tragically short, Sara’s love for Emmett was undeniable, and he brought her endless joy.
Emmett, who was only 8 months old when Sara was diagnosed, is her greatest legacy. When you look into his big, beautiful eyes, you see Sara’s spirit. He has inherited her love for art, books, and her infectious smile and laugh. He is her light, her miracle, and a living piece of her that will continue to shine in the world.
We are heartbroken by this loss, and while no amount of money can heal the pain, we hope to provide some financial support to help Jay and Emmett during this difficult time. Sara spent her life giving to others, and now we have the opportunity to honor her by supporting the people she loved most.
Thank you for your generosity. It means the world to us.
