Support Jasiah's Battle Against Brain Cancer
Donation protected
I have started this go fund me to ask our family, friends, and community to please read and consider donating to My dear friend/sister’s family during this heartbreaking fight of their lives.
- On July 9, my sister Elaina and her family's world was turned upside down when her son Jasiah was diagnosed with Choroid Plexus Carcinoma, also known as a brain tumor, which required an immediate surgery to drain spinal fluid that was being trapped in his brain. The fluid was causing pressure that caused him pain, vomiting, and unsteadiness on his feet.
The doctors were able to relieve the pressure for the meantime, but a decision needed to be made as the doctors were ready to act fast due to the severity of the tumor. The neurologist team at Dell’s Children Hospital decided to remove the tumor; a time and day had been scheduled for the surgery and it was performed. However, it wasn't the outcome we had hoped for. The doctors didn't foresee the tumor being as large as it was. The surgery exceeded the time expected and after almost a 12-hour surgery and more imaging, we find out that Jasiah will need to undergo another surgery in attempts to remove the remaining tumor. The neurologist allowed Jasiah time to recover before going into battle with the remaining tumor. This surgery was just as long as the one before and with a similar outcome. Elaina was told by the Neurosurgeon she was unable to remove all of the cancer. Explaining that she didn't want to invade certain areas of Jasiah's brain to avoid causing more deficits as there had already been a complication during the first attempt to remove the tumor. A complication that left Jasiah with right side weakness, inability to speak clearly, unable to lift his right arm, leg, and very limited use of his hand.
This tumor is lodged so deep into his brain that even after the second attempt, doctors were still unable to remove it, without having caused damage to Jasiah's brain function. Currently, Jasiah is having to undergo physical, speech, and occupational therapy in hopes of regaining his strength and function. The full treatment plan is unclear pending the biopsy report but it is highly likely that Jasiah will soon begin chemotherapy or some radiation treatment.
Despite this fight not being an easy one, all we can do is give God praise and thanks that Jasiah is alive to fight it and as a family we will all stay strong. Jasiah's fight will also be our fight. But along with this fight comes many struggles that no parent should have to worry about while enduring the fight for the life of their son.
Jasiah's parents have been unable to work as they do not want to leave their son’s bedside With school around the corner, bills every first of the month, the needs of a newborn baby and the basic needs of a big family of 6, their money is looking very tight. If you find it in your heart to help Jasiah’s family with any size of donation, it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and generosity and please remember to keep Jasiah, the family, and medical staff in continuous prayer.
