Hello, my name is Bob Paronich. I have a daughter, Sarah, and a son, Sam. My ex-wife Janet, 58, was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer, Glioblastoma, last November. Within 2 weeks of her diagnosis, she underwent an extensive 12-hour surgery, and the doctors removed most of the tumor. We stayed in her apartment after the operation, taking turns. With some visits from her friends but for the most part, just us.

During this, we applied for services through our state, such as emergency housing, food assistance, utilities, etc. It was difficult, confusing, and exhausting; everything happened so fast. She did get some relief from PLMA, and we set up a GoFundMe to help with her bills. By the end of May, she won’t have enough money to pay her rent and utilities. She is declining, and we reached out again to our state housing department, and she is still on a waiting list. Her medical insurance will also run out by the end of May, and we don’t know when Medicare will kick in, meaning no treatments unless we pay into COBRA. My daughter, son, and I have also been supplementing her, and we’ve exhausted our own personal funds. We’ve reached out to our State Representative, Social Workers, Church groups, and Friends to come up with ideas on how to help. We’ve exhausted our resources, and we need help.

Janet went from a normal, active, vibrant person who worked helping Veterans who struggle with substance abuse, finding them housing, and counseling them 24/7. She even saved a Veteran from committing suicide last year and received an award from the town where she worked. Now, just 5 months later, she is a shell of who she used to be. She’s lonely, afraid, depressed, angry, and can barely make words. She knows what she wants to say, but the words won’t come out properly or at all.
