Life has thrown many curveballs at my friend, James, over the past couple of years. In 2024, his birthday brought the devastating news that his Grandma was diagnosed with Dementia. This was especially tough because he hadn't had the chance to see her in person since 2019. Like so many, the COVID-19 pandemic made traveling to see her very unsafe.
Adding to this heartbreak, just a week before his Grandma's diagnosis, James lost his dog, who had been in James's life since a pup and was family. Around the same time, James faced the added stress of losing his job and went through a challenging period. He eventually made the move back to the Orlando area to try and get back on his feet. His old car seemed to have a recurring issue with a specific part that kept breaking down every three months, leading to repeated expensive repairs. Ultimately, the car gave out completely, forcing him to buy a new one. Thankfully, he now has a reliable vehicle – one he feels safe enough to drive to New Jersey.
Unfortunately, just as he finally has the means to travel, his work hours have slowed down, making it hard to save up the necessary funds quickly. His deepest wish is to be able to spend quality time with his Grandma before the Dementia progresses to the point where she may no longer remember him. He's hoping to make this important trip sometime between now and August.
The funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly towards making this reunion possible by covering:
* Gas for the drive to New Jersey and back
* Accommodation while he's there
* Any other essential travel costs
Being able to see his Grandma would mean the world to him. Any support you can offer, no matter the size, would be incredibly appreciated and would help make this meaningful journey a reality.
Thank you for taking the time to read James's story and for considering a donation. Please share this campaign with your network to help spread the word.
On behalf of James,
Orlando Harris
