The Greater Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank is urgently responding to the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. As a nonprofit centered on dignity, family care, and crisis relief, this mission is especially close to our hearts—our President is proudly Jamaican, and many of our volunteers and supporters have deep family roots on the island. This is not just a global disaster—it is personal to our organization and our community.
Donations will be used to purchase diapers and reaource for people in jamaica. We are working with Food for the poor, Jamaica Red Cross, Legacy Closet Falmouth and anthony's food pantry in negirl.
Why We’re Using GoFundMe (Instead of Kindful)
We typically process donations through our internal donor platform, Kindful, which is designated for U.S.-based IRS 501(c)(3) programming. Since this fundraiser is for international disaster relief, we are using GoFundMe to ensure:
✅ Correct IRS classification for international aid
✅ Full compliance with audit and reporting standards
✅ A separate and transparent funding stream
✅ Open access for national and international supporters
This ensures all funds are used exclusively for Hurricane Melissa relief in Jamaica.
PHYSICAL DONATIONS WELCOME
We are also collecting in-kind donations, which can be dropped off at:

Why This Matters to Us
As a South Florida-based organization, we know the reality of hurricanes. We also know that when your homeland hurts, your heart hurts too.
With our President and part of our leadership team being from Jamaica, our organization feels this crisis deeply. Many families we serve every month in Florida have strong ties to Jamaica and are now fearing for their loved ones back home.
This is not just aid—it is family helping family, community helping community, island to island, heart to heart.
Our Transparency Commitment
✅ 100% of proceeds go directly to relief & recovery
✅ We will share impact reports, photos, and updates
✅ We are working alongside verified local partners in Jamaica
