The cause could be viral, but doctors also fear something even more serious: a possible hole in his trachea, either from a tear during a recent procedure or from the damage of severe coughing. Jalen was rushed to a specialty hospital for emergency surgery to look for dangerous complications, including pneumomediastinum (air leaking into the chest cavity). Without immediate intervention, his chances are heartbreakingly slim.
