Our family’s world changed overnight when my partner Jake, age 34, was suddenly hospitalized for severe internal bleeding in his stomach. What started as a healthy, active life quickly turned into weeks in and out of hospital stays, countless tests, and a new reality of weekly checkups to monitor his blood count. Despite medication, Jake continues to lose blood and faces long stretches in the hospital, unable to work or even play with our children—Koban, Kaius, and Ella. Watching him lose the strength to pick up our baby daughter, something he loves more than anything, has been heartbreaking for all of us.

On top of Jake’s medical crisis, we’re facing eviction from the home we’ve lived in for years. Our landlord is remodeling and raising the rent, and with me working part-time as a lash artist and caring for our 9-month-old, we simply can’t keep up. We’re now struggling to cover the security deposit and first month’s rent for a new place, all while juggling mounting medical bills and the daily needs of our family of five. We’ve started selling our belongings just to get by, but it’s not enough.
