We are not our worst mistakes and shouldn’t be defined by those mistakes; rather, we should be defined by our actions afterward: taking accountability and making the necessary and important changes.

Jake Thompson, like so many other fathers, deserves the opportunity to be a part of their children’s lives. Unfortunately, the system saw an undeserving man based on a mistake that he has and continues to correct.

I’m a firm believer that children need both of their parents in their lives if at all possible. Jake has always been an active and present role in his two sons' lives, driving multiple hours one way to be able to spend a couple of hours with them at times.

His boys are his life.

As a close friend, I have witnessed firsthand the heartache and pain he’s endured missing his boys, especially his youngest.

He was unable to retain an attorney due to financial reasons during his divorce, and devastatingly, the court took everything from him: his home, personal belongings, his oldest son's personal belongings, and worst of all, ruled in the mom's favor to have sole custody with no visitation rights.

He was also ordered to pay an astounding amount in child support for his son he isn’t allowed to see or speak too. Making it difficult to stay afloat, let alone save up for an attorney.

It breaks my heart seeing a father that wants nothing more than to have a relationship with his kids, make new memories, and be there for them during this crucial time in their lives, having no access whatsoever to his youngest and very limited access to his oldest.
