On November 16th, 2025, my dad, Jaime Palacios, was detained by ICE while he was entering his vehicle to go to the store. Although the footage was upsetting to watch, we are incredibly grateful to the man at the laundromat who confronted these monsters; seeing the footage gave us some peace of mind that he was not physically harmed. However, our relief later turned into disbelief after reading the disgusting words these ICE spokespeople used to describe my father. I was told my dad's arrest appeared on Redbankgreen, and when I opened the website, I was disgusted to read that an ICE spokesperson said my dad was “an illegal alien from Mexico.”

My father, Jaime Palacios, immigrated to the U.S. in 2000 at the age of 23, seeking the American dream of freedom and the opportunity to raise a family. When he was detained, he was taken to Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. He was only allowed one phone call upon arrival and wasn’t able to speak with my mother for two days. We were planning to visit him that week, but a few days later, he called to say he was being transferred. Hours later, we received word he was sent to Texas, but when we tried to look him up, he was nowhere to be found. We didn’t hear from him for another day until he called to say he had been moved again—this time to California. These monsters are ripping families apart and didn’t give his family a chance to say goodbye.

Although my mother has put on a brave face for us, her children, we have seen how much this change has truly affected her. For the past two months, she has worked tirelessly to keep my 10-year-old brother, Dylan, happy and distracted from the fact that our father is currently more than 2,000 miles away. Recently, my mother, Claudia, explained to my sister and me that she intends to fight my father’s case to keep him in the United States with us. She told us it wouldn't be easy, but she is determined to fight for our family to stay together. This is why I decided to create this GoFundMe: to help us pay for the necessary legal fees. Any help is always appreciated, whether it be through donations or even sharing my dad's story. We are so grateful for the amount of love and support we’ve already received. Thank you for helping us navigate this difficult chapter and for helping us attempt to bring my dad back to us.
