Support Jahi Sami's family
Donation protected
Jahi Sami, Air Force veteran, father, husband, and man of society, passed away on May 6th of this year. Mr. Sami built a shrine at Fort Tilden that was firebombed with a Molotov cocktail containing carcinogenic material. He stayed there for seven days trying to save his shrine, and although he wrapped his nose with a wet cloth, he inevitably inhaled these fumes. Consequently, Mr. Sami developed tumors throughout his body. His passing strikes a cord throughout the local and global community that was touched by his presence, his words, and his life.
Jahi and his common law wife, Mariam Adeyi, started a soup stand in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. They have been able to support themselves through exchanging this healing food with the community. Mr. Sami and Ms. Adeyi welcomed their daughter Olayinka Kiongozi Sami Adeyi a year ago on May 7th of 2023. Mariam and Olayinka will continue to maintain their soup stand and honor Papa Sami’s legacy through entrepreneurship and more, with courage!
The family will remain in Brooklyn, and Mariam will be continuing her studies at Binghamton University from home. With the new challenges of motherhood and adulthood without her beloved husband's physical presence, Mariam needs communal support to maintain stability for her family beyond what the soup stand can provide. She will be running the soup stand herself while carrying out the responsibility of raising her daughter. As the family transitions into this new way of life, they will be managing all aspects of their lives without Mr. Sami's physical presence. Any and all of your support is welcomed, appreciated, and not taken for granted.
The family will use this financial support as means to get back on a stable footing as they plan out the next year. The funds would be used monthly to cover necessary costs beyond what Olayinka and Mariam currently have available. When Mr. Sami knew he was departing us, he asked for this GoFundMe to be made to help support his family. We are honoring his wishes.
For those who knew Mr. Sami through conversation and other moments of shared time, please feel free to come to his Celebration of Life on June 14th. For details of the event, please contact Mariam at [phone redacted].
Thank you for your time.
Peace and prosperity to all.
