Support Jackson Miller's Accessible Future

Our trusted friend, colleague and unofficial photographer, Dan Miller, lives in Fairfax County, Virginia with his wife Stephanie and teenage son, Jackson.

In early 2021, Jackson was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD), a debilitating and irreversible condition where his muscles around his shoulders and hips will continue to weaken and atrophy.

Just a few days into the new school year this Fall, Jackson was injured in gym class. In a fluke accident, he fell and broke his foot, leading to two big fractures. This is catastrophic for someone with muscular dystrophy because the muscles don’t heal. Because of LGMD, he also can’t use crutches, which means his long-term immobility immediately increased, very drastically. This shocking and unforeseeable event has immediately launched Jackson’s dependency on the wheelchair for the rest of his life.

The Miller family will need to immediately retrofit their home to accommodate a wheelchair, provide chairlifts to enable Jackson to access his bedroom independently, and install a permanent exterior wheelchair ramp for accessibility.

This campaign will support the Miller family by helping to fund 2 chairlifts for their home and make other ADA-compliant updates on their house to try and make Jackson’s life more accessible and safer in the long term.

All proceeds from this campaign will go directly to the Miller family.
