Support Jack's Summer Internship volunteering with Refugees

Hey everyone!

I am days away from finishing my junior year at Winthrop University, and I will be returning in the fall to finish my degree; majoring in Spanish, and minoring in Healthcare Management and Economics. I hope to use what I learn studying these subjects to work with impoverished immigrants, refugees, or Spanish speaking communities. I have always been passionate about helping people, and I have never enjoyed learning anything as much as I enjoy learning Spanish. Currently, I am very comfortable with my grammar and vocabulary, but am still hoping to develop my conversational skills more.

After sharing with my academic advisor my passion to help people and speak Spanish with others, I was offered an opportunity this summer with Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte (CCDOC). This internship will allow me to work with Venezuelan refugees (and other refugees as well); giving me the opportunity to improve my Spanish and to change lives in a meaningful and tangible way. At the end of March I finished my interview and onboarding with CCDOC and they are excited to have me as an intern. I will be working with kids signed up for youth programs and with Spanish speaking families that are adjusting to life in the US.

There is one catch to the summer opportunity I have. The internship is unpaid, and CCD of Charlotte is, of course, based out of Charlotte. As of now I do not have any housing, meal plan, or income for this summer. While I may have some solutions for housing, I am still looking for a way to raise the money I will need to volunteer this summer. I ask you to consider supporting me this summer. If there is any way in which you or others you know may feel like you can support my cause, it would be greatly, greatly, appreciated.

The anticipated daily cost would be around $40, so if you would just like to donate to cover one or two days that is perfect.

Our goal is $3000 because that is the anticipated cost of expenses this summer outside of the cost of housing, although it may be used to cover housing if another option does not present itself.

Any money raised past $3000 dollars will be donated, likely to Catholic Charities of Charlotte to support the work I am doing, but I am open to other places to donate.
