Two years ago, I created a GoFundMe for my sister Bonnie as she lost her battle against breast cancer. It was a horrible, dark time for all of us as we gathered around her and said our goodbyes. Now, two years after Bonnie's passing, her son Jack, my nephew, has been diagnosed with ALS. This diagnosis came after nearly a year of tests as Jack's walking and overall movement continued to decline.

As I write this, I'm struggling to find the words that can express what I'm feeling for my 34-year-old nephew, one of the sweetest, most gentle souls you could be fortunate enough to know, or my brother-in-law Dana, who now will be faced with the caretaking of his son in this difficult journey ahead. One of the first conversations I had with my nephew after the diagnosis, through heavy sobs on both our parts, I shared how at 63, I would trade places with him in a second so that he would not have to endure this. But of course, those are hollow words as it's not possible. And thoughts of eight-year-old Silas, Jack's son, not really understanding what his dad will be going through in the years ahead. It's all just a bit too much.

Those who know me well know I'm an emotional being and just writing this has me in tears. I've even avoided social media for two months now because the world just all feels a bit too much. So here I sit, writing this GoFundMe, asking for whatever you may be able to help with, for Jack, for Silas, and for Dana, to help with medical bills, and for some additional comfort in the time ahead for the the three of them.
