Isela and I celebrated the greatest moment of our lives when we got married in October of 2024. We then welcomed a new member to our family in January 2025, our Mini Goldendoodle puppy, Gianni. Things were going well as we adjusted to married life with our new dog.

In April, new challenges arrived. Isela’s grandmother passed away on April 11th, and just 3 days later, my grandfather passed away on April 14th. While navigating and mourning the loss of our grandparents, Isela noticed a lump and dimpling on her breast in May. After consulting with her physician, we moved forward to get a definitive answer to what this was. The initial ultrasound and diagnostic mammogram were concerning to the doctors, and the decision was made to proceed with a biopsy. Results confirmed breast cancer. We immediately made plans to learn more about what we were up against with additional ultrasounds, breast MRIs, consultations with our oncology team, our surgical team, a full-body CT scan, a full-body bone scan, and a meeting with our fertility team as it is our hope to start a family in the near future.

After all of these consults and additional scans, the decision has been made to proceed with chemotherapy, followed by surgical removal of the tumor, radiation, and reconstructive surgery.

We don’t know what the immediate future holds, but with your help, Isela and I are ready to do whatever it takes to fight this and beat it!

Isela plans on continuing to serve her students in her role as a high school counselor, be a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and dog mom to the best of her abilities during her treatment process.

While this will be a difficult journey, Isela’s oncology team is optimistic for a positive outcome.
