The Indian Students Association of Tuscaloosa (ISAT) is a non-profitable student organization at the University of Alabama (UA) that aims to showcase the Indian culture, tradition and diversity in the UA community. We proudly celebrate our Indian festivals that provide a platform for helping UA students understand the culture and heritage of India while striving to make our celebrations unique and fun for our audiences. We endeavor to make ISAT synonymous with a home away from home – for the Indian students and community, contributing in any small way we can towards their progress. The ISAT team tries its best to assist incoming Indian students with a smooth transition to life at UA.
We had a thriving and buzzing 2021-22 academic year with several events, including Diwali, Holi, Independence day, potluck, Bollywood night, and movie and cricket match screenings. In the midst, we assisted one of the largest batches of incoming Indian students UA has ever seen. At the Service and Leadership (SAL) awards, ISAT was awarded the University's "Outstanding Cultural Organization," “University Programs Excellence in Collaborative Programming,” & “Will Byington Award for Student Officer of the Year" to our former President – Abhinandhan Narayanan.
For the year 2022-23, we've made bigger and better plans that commenced with our celebration of the International Yoga day – for the first time on the UA campus, and the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence. The more ambitious events, however, require financial support. The funding offered through the University has a limited scope of availability and, at times, is insufficient to cover our event and non-event-related expenses. The remaining costs are covered through ISAT's account, which runs on generous donations from the faculty and community members. Thus, we're using crowdfunding through GoFundMe to try and make our organization financially healthy for this year and the future.
ISAT's events have always been free and open to everyone, and we would always strive to keep it that way. Any small amount helps us plan & host activities that bring our Indian community and our UA community as a whole together. With stable finances, we can invite guests to our UA campus who can be beneficial to our Indian diaspora and highlight our campus events. We would also like to create a website dedicated to ISAT that would be informative and showcase our activities. In addition, financial assistance through your donations will help us help our Indian students and community when in need, such as organizing airport pickups, accommodation for new students in need, assisting students requiring urgent medical care, and volunteering for our community.
All donations will go directly to the ISAT official bank account and will solely be used for ISAT-related activities/events.
Thank you for reading, and we sincerely appreciate your support! ❤️
