As part of our continued service to the Central Illinois community, we're expanding our operations to grow sustainable, local, and healthy microgreens at scale by leveraging new automation technologies.
Your donation will allow us to automate the growing process enabling more fresh greens to be grown right here in Champaign/Urbana. Additionally, it will give children in the community the opportunity to learn how they can help their family, community, and planet through technology.
TerraFarmin LLC (a Champaign-based startup focused on creating automated production systems for indoor farming) is partnering with the CS + X Foundation (a Champaign-based non-profit focused on increasing STEM retention).
Use of Funds
Donating to the CS + X Foundation will allow us to purchase equipment, space, and additional resources for sharing this technology with the youth in their program. Additionally, you'll be helping cover start-up costs for research and development to make this a feasible project that continues to provide fresh greens for the Champaign-Urbana community for years to come creating a long-lasting positive impact in the community.
Teaching Children How to Save the Future
By providing immersive field trips through the CS Plus X Foundation, children in the program can learn a real-world application for wireless technology that benefits their community. This initiative will support the children's education while benefiting their community's health and helping the environment by scaling food production indoors using sustainable and reusable materials.
A World Class Team of Experts Right Here in Chambana
Our team consists of US military veterans, farmers, computer engineers, agroforestry students, environmental restoration graduates, indigenous persons and a Ph.D. in agricultural and biological engineering. This team provides a diverse and comprehensive perspective on tackling the problems we see with food production in underserved communities.
So far, we've been able to service dozens of local stores, restaurants, and farmer's markets through our partner farm Diamond's Homestead, and we wish to continue serving healthy superfoods to the community. Additionally, we've recently partnered with Agriwater; a local start-up researching how to source clean water from agricultural waste. Additionally, TerraFarmin's founders have a history of scaling businesses successfully, which provides a high likelihood that this project will benefit the Central Illinois community for years to come.
What your donation does:
- A $200 donation will enable us to buy one more shelf for growing microgreens, which means up to 100 more ounces of fresh veggies per week!
- A $500 donation enables us to automate our current growing system, giving us the ability to host tours of the automated facility for community youth.
- A $1,000 donation allows us to build an additional watering system, doubling our production capacity to more than 500 more ounces of fresh veggies! As a special thank you for a donation of this size, one of our partners (who has previously worked as a professional vegan chef) will cook you a homemade vegan meal of your choosing using our freshly grown greens.
Thank you to our partners in this project:
