Support Indigenous Weavers Sovereignty
Donation protected
My name is Jasmine, and this year for my 40th birthday, I invite you to join me in raising funds to create pathways for indigenous women to reach their elders where they can learn directly the art & traditions of weaving.
I have been blessed with the privilege of being able to travel and spend time with indigenous communities who have gifted me the traditional ways of their weaving, songs and ceremonies which have gifted my life in unending ways.
Spending time within these communities have shone light on the lack of access indigenous women have to their own traditions, wisdom ways and community through the art of weaving. They have lived with historical, societal, geopgraphic and financial barriers to pathways that can bridge the severence that has occured, weaving back into their lives the traditions and ceremonies that were always their birthrite.
This summer I turn 40, and as I meet a long held dream of traveling to the Mäpuru homelands to sit and weave with Aboriginal master weavers for 2 weeks, I invite us to collectively raise funds to enable an Aboriginal woman to receive access to the same gift, the opportunity to travel and sit on country with her ancestors.
Money raised will go directly to this woman's travel, registration for the women's trip, a donation to the Mäpuru community, as well as additional support for enabling her home and family to be cared for while she is away.
This fundraising event is the beginning of a wider vision of birthing an organisation that will support the wider needs of inidigenous weaving communities around the world, honouring their slow, quiet activism of restoring beauty with the world through the simple art and pace of weaving.
When giving, do be mindful of the automated 'tip' generated for the GoFundMe platform, you can adjust as desired.
