Das Queer Shorts Vienna Film Festival (QSV) ist Wiens einziges internationales queeres Kurzfilmfestival. Seit seiner Gründung 2023 hat sich QSV als wichtige Plattform für queere Filmkultur, Sichtbarkeit und Community-Austausch etabliert – mit einem besonderen Fokus auf queere Minoritäten, Migrant:innen und Geflüchtete, deren Perspektiven im Kino noch immer unterrepräsentiert sind.

Das Festival findet an drei Tagen an zwei Kinostandorten statt und umfasst eine Ausstellung, Partys, Workshops und Diskussionsformate. Gezeigt werden über 100 queere Kurzfilme in rund 10 kuratierten Filmprogrammen. Internationale und österreichische Filmschaffende, Künstler:innen und Gäste kommen in Wien zusammen, um Film, Diskurs und Community miteinander zu verbinden.

QSV wird von einem ehrenamtlich arbeitenden, gemeinnützigen Verein organisiert. Das Kernteam besteht aus sechs Personen, die das Festival über das gesamte Jahr hinweg unbezahlt vorbereiten, unterstützt von weiteren freiwilligen Helfer:innen während der Festivaltage. Trotz dieses Engagements entstehen unvermeidbare laufende Kosten: Kinomieten, Technik, Untertitelung, Ausstellungsproduktion, Gästebetreuung, Reise- und Unterkunftskosten, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Organisation.

Die öffentliche Förderung erfolgt derzeit hauptsächlich durch die Stadt Wien – diese wurde jedoch gekürzt. Gleichzeitig müssen essenzielle Kosten, insbesondere die Miete der Kinos und technische Infrastruktur, weiterhin vollständig getragen werden, um das Festival auf professionellem Niveau durchführen zu können.

The Queer Shorts Vienna Film Festival (QSV) is Vienna’s only international queer short film festival. Since its founding in 2023, QSV has become an important platform for queer cinema, visibility, and community exchange — with a strong focus on queer minorities, migrants, and refugees whose stories are still underrepresented.

The festival takes place over three days, across two cinema locations, and includes an exhibition, parties, workshops, and panel discussions. Each edition presents more than 100 queer short films in around 10 curated film programs, bringing together international and Austrian filmmakers, artists, and audiences in Vienna.

QSV is organized by a non-profit, volunteer-based association. The core team consists of six people working on a voluntary basis throughout the year, supported by additional volunteers during the festival days. While much of the work is unpaid, the festival comes with significant and unavoidable costs: cinema rentals, technical equipment, subtitles, exhibition production, guest coordination, travel and accommodation, communication, and accessibility.

Currently, public funding comes only from the City of Vienna, and this support has unfortunately been reduced. At the same time, essential costs — especially cinema rentals and technical infrastructure — must still be paid in full in order to realize the festival at a professional level.
