Support in Tragedy
This is Zachary Winkler, he just turned 3 on May 4. He is the sweetest, happiest, most loving boy with a constant smile. On Saturday May 2nd Zach fell ill. It was obvious something was wrong because his skin had turned grayish. His father Ben rushes him to the ER where it was discovered that his intestines had twisted into a knot causing a large blockage as well as depleted oxygen to the area. He was rushed into surgery. He has had 4 surgeries in the past week. He is in a medically induced coma and his intestines have been left outside his body in an attempt to facilitate healing and allow for swelling. As of today, Monday, his most recent surgery, they have removed nearly all of his intestines due to the damage caused by the knot and lack of oxygen. During his hospital stay his parents have not left him alone, one parent has been with him the entire time. He is expected to have a colostomy and IV feedings in the future. The intestinal twist was a freak occurrence that could not have been predicted or avoided.I am Zach’s great aunt, he is my sister’s grandson. I feel helpless in how best to support his parents:
Kinsey and Ben Winkler. I know with the virus
money is tight for everyone. My goal is simple, I want to raise enough money to cover food expenses for Zach’s parents while they are at the hospital. It is one small goal to help, to lessen the burden for
them in some way. I am asking anyone who can spare even a few dollars to help to do so. Alone I can’t make much difference but as a community of friends we can help to lessen the load so their focus can be on their young son who continues to fight for his life. I apologize if seeing Zach in such a state is distasteful, it’s easy to look away, but I wanted to make clear how dire his illness is and the extent to which hospitalization will be required.
To each person who reads, shares, or donates I
appreciate both your time and effort. I have never created a go fund me before and wouldn’t now if I weren’t so lost in how best to help.
Thank you all. Any amount is welcome and so very much appreciated
