Our struggle and need for help is still very real, very present, and we thank you deeply for all of the help you are able to give. In a nutshell: Please donate here to support a 6-Person Trans*, Immunocompromised household based in the Bay Area, who no longer have safe housing and need a new home. We are a family made up of early to late 20-somethings who maintain various forms of labor in fighting for social change. We were hit hard with multiple unexpected costs in recent months including medical bills and will now need to pay rehousing fees, moving costs, and a security deposit. In addition to these costs, our household experienced a total loss of income in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic making it impossible for us to cover these costs. Funds will be equally distributed amongst the group to cover our rehousing/rent, security deposit, medical bills, groceries, moving costs, and emergency funds.
Our Story: In March of 2020, as the COVID-19-caused global pandemic impacted the entire world in many unprecedented ways, the tenants of this marginalized household experienced a total loss of income. Reaching out to our landlord proved fruitless, and then hostile. Over a few emails, our landlord made it very clear they would not forgive even a minimal portion of the impending rent.
We tried negotiating, being transparent about our circumstances, and eventually made pleas to their humanity. Our landlord has still chosen to prioritize profit over safety.
Our lease ends in a month, and it is clear we need to find a more welcoming home and soon.
Having to possibly pay back rent, put down payments for a home that will be safer for us, and cover other related costs, all while in the Bay Area, which is infamously known for ever-increasing housing inequity, we are financially incapable of getting all this done in the next month without your help.
We understand our ask is a lot. We do not put this out there without other larger issues going on in the world in mind. The Black Lives Matter movement and a call to defund Law Enforcement takes precedence on a systemic and global scale, to what we are facing. We only ask for the help you can give and nothing more.
