Janet Hobson, along with co-supporters Mike Gomez and Janet Miller, is organizing this fundraiser to support SFUSD educators who are bravely standing up for students, schools, and the future of public education. After months of bargaining with the district, educators have been forced into the first SFUSD strike in nearly 50 years. This decision was not made lightly, but the cost of doing nothing is far greater.
As of tomorrow, all striking educators will lose 25% of their next monthly paycheck. The strike is about more than just wages—it's about securing fully staffed classrooms, sustainable workloads for Special Education staff, funded health benefits, and a living wage for educators and their families. Right now, educators are sacrificing their daily pay to fight for a very modest increase in wages and to have healthcare that covers their entire family. For context, SF police officers and firefighters on average make 30% higher pay than teachers, highlighting the urgent need for fair compensation.
Your support will help cover groceries, daily expenses, rent, and other essentials for striking educators so they can remain strong, visible, and united on the picket line. Every donation helps educators continue their fight for fair wages and benefits without the added stress of lost income. Please stand with SFUSD educators during this critical time. Your support will help them stay focused on winning the rights and resources our students and staff deserve. Every donation makes a difference—thank you for helping us protect the future of public education!
Donations will be distributed to faculty members at Ida B. Wells who demonstrate a need for assistance with paying rent or buying groceries.
The donated money will be used to purchase gift cards for groceries at Trader Joes and given to co-workers in need. Co-workers who receive a gift card will sign a document showing how much they received.
As the strike officially just ended on 02/13/2026, we will return to work next week. However, there is no strike fund to reimburse loss of wages. Thus, any amount will support educators in need who have made a tremendous financial sacrifice by going on strike. Thank you for your generosity!
The organizer, Janet Hobson, along with co-supporters Mike Gomez and Janet Miller will oversee withdrawing the funds from Janet Hobson’s credit union account by February 20. Whatever money that is raised by 2/20/26 will be split into equal amounts for support staff such as security guards and secretaries who request a financial hardship from the loss of wages during the strike. The money will be used to purchase grocery store gift cards that will be distributed to the staff in need by 2/27/26 by the three organizers. Organizers will also accept recommendations for staff in need from our principal, Catherine Pringle.
