International Girlies Day ("IGD") is a holiday my friends and I created as a way to celebrate life and each other for absolutely no reason and every reason at the same time. This holiday is bigger than any birthday or bachelorette party or Bat Mitzvah one can imagine, and that is because it is SO much bigger than any one of us! IGD is a reminder of how much more enjoyable life can be when we make it about more than us—when we make it about each other.

This IGD we will be raising money for Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA). I personally did not know much about Huntington's Disease (HD) before learning how this disease has impacted one of our very own girlies, Aneta.

Aneta's mom Anna has been battling HD for the past few years, and Aneta's baby sister tested positive for the gene that causes HD. Huntington’s Disease is a genetic disorder that causes nerve cells in the brain to gradually stop working--affecting one's ability to move, think and function in day-to-day life. Aneta describes the past few years as a rollercoaster ride for her and her family, filled with frustration, grief, gratitude, despair, hope, acceptance, heartbreak, and DETERMINATION.

There is no effective treatment or cure--yet! In honor of our 10th Annual IGD, we've set a goal of raising $1010, with the hope of bringing us closer to the day where families like Aneta's can finally step off the HD rollercoaster.
