After a month in detention, H’s father was deported. This high school senior has been left devastated — emotionally and financially. Now, with no parents around, H must cope on his own while trying to find the strength to stay focused in school and finish his senior year.

Imagine having to leave your mother and siblings behind to escape an unsafe situation in your country? That is what H had to do to flee gang violence at his former high school in El Salvador. After a difficult journey north, H joined his father in Silver Spring several years ago. They shared a small living space and lived a simple, peaceful life until his dad was taken by ICE outside his workplace on December 14.

H’s father is a hardworking man who migrated to the United States two decades ago. He is now in ICE detention, and H is home alone. Not only has he been separated from both of his parents, but he is also suddenly responsible for all of his expenses —rent, utilities, food— while also trying to help his detained father secure legal counsel.

H is a senior at Montgomery Blair High School. Despite this traumatic situation, he is determined to graduate with his classmates in May. Together, we can help lighten his load, support his goals, and show him that he is not alone.

Tras un mes detenido, el padre de H fue deportado. Este estudiante de último año de secundaria quedó devastado, tanto emocional como económicamente. Ahora, sin sus padres, H debe arreglárselas solo mientras intenta encontrar la fuerza para concentrarse en la escuela y terminar su último año.

¿Te imaginas tener que dejar atrás a tu madre y a tus hermanos para escapar de una situación peligrosa en tu país? Eso es lo que H tuvo que hacer para huir de la violencia de las pandillas en su escuela secundaria en El Salvador. Después de un difícil viaje hacia el norte, H se reunió con su padre en Silver Spring hace varios años. Compartían una pequeña vivienda y llevaban una vida sencilla y tranquila hasta que su padre fue detenido por ICE frente a su lugar de trabajo el 14 de diciembre.

El padre de H es un hombre trabajador que emigró a Estados Unidos hace dos décadas. Ahora se encuentra detenido por ICE y H está solo en casa. H no solo se ha separado de sus padres, sino ahora es responsable de todos sus gastos —alquiler, servicios públicos, comida— y además está tratando de ayudar a su padre detenido a conseguir asesoría legal.

H es estudiante de último año en la Escuela Secundaria Montgomery Blair. A pesar de esta traumática situación, está decidido a graduarse con sus compañeros en mayo. Juntos, podemos ayudarlo a aliviar su carga, apoyar sus metas y demostrarle que no está solo.
