Three days a week, a group of people walk the area of 149th Street in the South Bronx carrying peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, water, socks, and most importantly, hope. These walks were inspired by the question of a 6th grader from Immaculate Conception School after hearing about their teacher’s volunteer work on a midnight run. The student asked, “How can we help the people experiencing homelessness we see in our neighborhood?”
A group of concerned neighbors, including my brother, Marty Rogers, and his wife, Francine Nolin-Rogers, began the “Hope Walks” in response. Our mission is to raise money to continue to support the walks. Every penny collected will go directly to purchase necessary supplies. I invite you to be a part of this wonderful program which offers food, drink, conversation, and hope to our houseless brothers and sisters!
