The employees of HMAC, the music venue and arts center I own, are facing an incredibly difficult time. Due to ongoing issues with the city and back taxes, HMAC has been forced to close its doors—hopefully only temporarily. We are doing everything we can to negotiate a settlement and move forward, but in the meantime, our dedicated employees have been left without the pay they’ve earned. This closure has created a lot of uncertainty and hardship for the people who make HMAC such a special place for our community.
I want everyone to know that every dollar raised through this fundraiser will go directly to the employees—real human beings who are part of our community—to help cover their lost wages during this period. None of the money will go to the venue or to me as the owner. We are also working diligently to resolve our situation with the city and pay what we owe through a plan, so that HMAC can reopen and continue serving the community.
HMAC is fighting to survive, and we’re hopeful that with the community’s help, we can get through this. If you’ve ever enjoyed a show, a drink, or a special moment at HMAC, please consider donating to help our employees through this uncertain time. Even a dollar or five dollars makes all the difference, because hundreds of thousands of people have experienced shows at this venue. Your generosity will make a real difference in their lives and help keep the spirit of HMAC alive.
