In Hillsboro, Oregon—a city that prides itself on diversity and community—far too many families are living under a cloud of fear and uncertainty. Recent enforcement actions by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and related agencies have rocked our neighborhoods, disrupted lives, and left children asking whether they’ll ever be able to say goodbye to their parents.

We are launching this Fund to provide urgent and tangible support to the families caught in this crackdown—to help with food, legal defense, and immediate needs while they navigate an incredibly difficult emergency.

Why this matters:

On October 14, 2025, Hillsboro resident Victor Cruz—a longtime community member with a valid work permit—was detained by ICE, in what supporters say is a case of mistaken identity.

In October alone, Washington County reported at least 135 ICE arrests—nearly half of those for the entire state.

At a packed Hillsboro City Hall meeting, dozens of residents described masked agents, unmarked vehicles, blocked job sites, parents too fearful to send their kids to school, and a community “terrified.”
if you seen the video of me speaking you know what I was talking about
These are our neighbors, our friends, our classmates’ families. This isn’t a politics... this is our lived reality here in Hillsboro.

Our mission:
The Hillsboro Immigration Support Fund will be managed transparently with the following goals:

Emergency Food & Basic Needs — Provide grocery support, meals, utility or rent assistance when wage-earners are suddenly detained or jobs halted because of fear.
Legal Defense & Advocacy — Help families access legal counsel, translation, bond funds, and advocacy to navigate detention, release, hearings, and deportation risk.
Community Safety & Support Services — Fund safe-space programming, mental-health/trauma response for children and parents, and practical assistance (transportation, child care) when a parent is detained.
Local Resilience — Build a reserve fund to respond to future enforcement surges in the county so families aren’t left scrambling when the next wave hits.

Why donations matter now:

Time is critical. When a wage-earner is detained, the ripple effect is immediate—children may lose meals, families may lose housing, fear shuts down schooling, jobs are left unfilled. The county has declared an emergency over this enforcement surge. But government funds move slowly. This Fund is about getting help to people right now.

How funds will be used & managed:

Priority will be given to Hillsboro/Washington County area families impacted by immigration enforcement (detention, loss of income due to fear/agents’ presence, etc.).
All donations go strictly to the Fund—no overhead, no administration fees beyond minimal processing. my family and friends will determine how the funds will be used witch may include local non profits already doing the important work ,or my family and I will make the important choices on how it will help the people the most.

How you can help:

  • Donate today. Every dollar supports a family in crisis.
  • Share widely. Post this page to social media, email groups, local networks. Many of those affected are isolated or afraid to speak up—visibility matters.

Note on privacy and dignity:
We know many families are hesitant to ask for help. The Fund will maintain confidentiality, respect privacy, and request only the minimum required info to connect support. No shaming, no exposure—just help.

Closing call to action:
Hillsboro has always been at its best when we stand with each other. When fear creeps in, community must push back. We are not powerless. By giving, by sharing, by standing firm for justice and support, we can provide a lifeline to those who keep our city running—those who pick crops, clean offices, build homes, teach our children, serve our businesses.

Join us. Be part of the answer. Because when one family suffers in silence, we all do.
