On the morning of Monday, July 21st, at approximately 10 a.m. Hieu Tran was doing what so many of us take for granted, walking his dog near his home in Burlington, Vermont. Without warning, ICE agents surrounded him in the parking lot outside. With his dog in hand, Hieu was taken into custody and immediately transported to a detention center. No chance to say goodbye to his children. No moment to hug his mother. No time to prepare for the life-altering separation that was about to take place.
Hieu had been complying with all immigration requirements, attending his mandatory check-ins every six months without fail. His next scheduled check-in was just 10 days away. Despite this history of compliance, ICE cited him as a “flight risk,” stripping him from his family and home without notice.
To those who know him, Hieu also known as Chino, or what his friends call him Wavy; is more than just a name. He’s a devoted father of three, a loyal son, a loving brother, and a cherished friend. To the naked eye, you would never know what he’s been battling within due to the big smile shown on his face. Hieu carries a heart of gold. He is deeply committed to his family and children, always showing up when others need him. His presence is a pillar of strength, resilience, and compassion to many.
Hieu came to the United States when he was only 8 years old. America is the only home he has ever truly known. He was raised here, educated here, and built his entire life in Burlington. Now, he faces the devastating reality of being forcibly removed from the only country he’s called home, separated from the people who love him most.
This traumatic event has placed an enormous emotional and financial burden on Hieu’s family as they try to navigate through this difficult time.
We are asking for your support; whether through donation, sharing this message, or simply offering a prayer. Funds raised will go directly toward easing the financial strain on Hieu’s family during this heartbreaking time, as well as helping him rebuild in a country he no longer recognizes.
No child deserves to be separated from a loving parent. No human being should be torn from their family without a chance to say goodbye.
If you’ve ever had the honor of knowing Hieu, you know he would be the first to step up for others. Now it’s our turn to stand up for him.
Please consider donating any amount makes a difference. Let’s help bring hope and stability back to a family that’s been devastated by this unjust act, as well as help Hieu’s transition ride smoothly.
With gratitude and love,
The Family and Friends of Hieu Tran
