Helping a Hero Find Her Wings

For the past 10 years, our family has been incredibly blessed to have a true hero in our home. She’s our children’s nanny, but she is so much more than that. She has loved and raised our kids as if they were her own, and in doing so, she became part of our family. She is a fixer, a nurturer, and a person who has spent her life selflessly taking care of everyone else.

This Thursday marks her last day with us, and while we'll miss her terribly, we are so excited for her next chapter. This new beginning is more than just a job change—it’s a chance for her to finally take care of herself. After 27 years of an unhealthy marriage, she has bravely made the difficult decision to leave a long, painful, and abusive situation--starting over completely.

She is walking away with nothing. She’s choosing to let her ex-husband keep the house so her two adult boys will always have a place to call home. She's not asking for spousal support or a share of his pension, and she's even leaving him with the sports car he bought (irresponsibly)—because, as she says, "When he hurts, they hurt, then I hurt." Her only financial lifeline is the hopeful sale of a camper that's difficult to sell and will likely take a while to bring in the much-needed money to survive. In the meantime, she needs to move into a new apartment and buy everything from furniture to forks.

This is a woman who has given her entire life to others, but she has always struggled to ask for help. She is a woman who deserves to finally find her butterfly wings. We want to make sure she has the softest possible landing as she starts this new, beautiful chapter.
