If you have not yet had the pleasure of meeting our little brother Henry (the artist formerly known as Aidan, lol) he is truly the coolest 11-year-old. For those who have, you probably know how deep his bond with his mother Heather runs. We are very sad to share that Heather recently passed away rather traumatically, and Henry is now at the beginning of his grief and healing journey. In addition to this, he is also facing other major life adjustments—moving from the ranch to the city to live full-time with our dad, and eventually going to school, which he has not had much experience with. These factors in combination with his grief/trauma are more overwhelming than any child should ever have to face, but luckily he has a big, loving family that he knows will do anything for him.
Right now, our top priorities are getting Henry into specialized grief and trauma therapy, long-overdue general medical care, and resources for a smooth transition into school. Unfortunately, there are significant financial obstacles, including the large debt left behind, our already strained finances, and Henry's current lack of health insurance. We are working towards solutions, but the process is slow.
It's very hard to have to ask for help, but we're grateful to be reminded by our friends and family that it takes a village. We have set up this fund for those who love Henry (and John!) and want to contribute to his healing and wellbeing. Your support means the world to us, and there are no words big enough to thank those who have already helped us through these harrowing first few weeks.
Rather than ending this on a sad note, I would like to share a little more about Henry for those who don't know him or haven't gotten to see him in a while. Henry is truly the sweetest, smartest, and most creative kid we've ever known. He spends his days writing songs and making beats that blow us away! (Seriously, check out his rap song about dogs, "Boop that Snoot" on Spotify under SirRhodes!) He's obsessed with vinyl and can beat even the most seasoned hip-hop fans with his music trivia. Aside from music, he's also a huge history buff, making detailed videos about geography and world history on youtube. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that he has been able to identify the flag, location, and capital of every country/state on earth since he was around 5 years old. When he's not busy being a little genius, he loves to watch Hilda and Over the Garden Wall, play Minecraft, and attend church with his abuelita. He can't wait to make friends at school, but hasn't decided if he wants to be the "class clown" or the "popular boy"— in the Wood family, he's definitely both! Henry is always the first to give you a hug, and the last to leave the party when people are having fun. Despite everything he has been through, he remains the most big-hearted kid you can imagine. We love him so, so much.
Thank you for helping us get him through this difficult time. We don't know what we would do without our amazing community of friends and family.
