Support Helena in Overcoming Financial Hardship
Donation protected
Helena was born in a remote village in the middle of the jungles of Paraguay. At 5 years old she was kidnapped. This happens frequently as the indigenous are seen as the lowest class.
She was held captive until the man of the home died. She then escaped and started a life alone in the city.
She started her own seamstress business and became one of the largest providers of police uniforms in the country.
Then she lost everything during the pandemic.
Last year she attempted to restart her business and received a loan to get started again.
This year she delivered the uniforms but the clients didn’t pay, did not give a receipt, and have disappeared. Unfortunately this is not too uncommon in Paraguay.
Now, Helena finds herself needing to pay back a $30,000 loan before the court garnishes her wages (she lives on minimum wage, which is about $300 a month).
Even with all this, Helena spends much of her free time teaching and training indigenous women how to sew so they can try to escape poverty. Her passion is helping other indigenous families in any way she can.
