I'm curating an exhibition, HELD: Black Women and The Womb, that centers Black women creatives' lived experiences with womb health challenges, from fibroids to endometriosis, from unwanted hysterectomies to abortions. Our show opens on May 8, 2026.
This work exists because too many Black women carry these experiences in silence, coerced into procedures they don't want, their pain dismissed.
I've lived through the physical and emotional toll of fibroids, navigating pain, severe exhaustion, and being told my options were limited. After having 12 fibroids removed, I feel like myself again.
This work is part of that return.
While a fiscal partner hasn't come through (yet), I couldn't let the disappointment deter me from bringing this vision to life. I've already secured the Nina Baldwin Gallery by investing $3,300 of my own money.
I'm now hoping to raise $4,000 to support the elements that will make this experience whole:
- Community partner honorariums
- Community-centered programming + supplies
- Seating + equipment rentals (projector, sound)
- Refreshments for gatherings
Our goal will be achieved in tiers. Once we reach the first amount, GoFundMe will automatically increase the amount, and so on.
If this resonates with you, whether through your own experience or someone you love, I invite you to support this work.
Any and every contribution helps create a space where we can be held with care. Thank you!
Note: If we exceed our goal, additional funds will support the labor of curating, producing, and holding this work with care.
