In 1997, my mom, Heidy, came to the United States with nothing but hope, determination, and the dream of building a better life. For more than 28 years, she has worked tirelessly , often juggling multiple jobs and working overnights, to create stability as a single mom.

Recently, her world was turned upside down. She became the victim of a sophisticated online scam that wiped out her entire life savings, everything she had worked for since the day she arrived in this country. To make matters worse, a few days before this incident, her company announced to her that they would be liquidating her position in the company so she would be laid off.

After a lifetime of hard work and helping others, she now finds herself starting over from zero. She’s devastated, but she’s trying to stay strong and hopeful.

We’re setting up this GoFundMe to help her get back on her feet — to cover her basic expenses while she looks for new work, and to rebuild a small sense of security and peace after such a painful loss.

My mom has always been the kind of person who shows up for others, kind, patient, and generous to a fault. If you’ve ever met her, you know how much light she brings into a room. Now she’s the one who needs a bit of that kindness returned.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will help her breathe a little easier and remind her that there’s still good in the world.
