Support Heidi's Fight for a Kidney Transplant

Hello - I am Heidi's sister, Holly, and I am writing this with permission from her family. As many of you probably know, Heidi has end-stage renal disease and has been on the kidney transplant list for about two years now while she does peritoneal dialysis at home herself, all while trying to manage the pain this has caused her body, her diabetes, and taking care of her family, her four girls.

On Monday, October 14, Heidi was found to be very out of it and unresponsive by her girls. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was admitted for care. She was found to be in diabetic ketoacidosis, and it was decided she needed to be placed on an insulin drip and fluids to bring her blood pH back to normal. With Heidi being on dialysis, she is on fluid restrictions and doesn’t tolerate a lot of fluid in her body. The doctors were aware of this, but they said they had to worry about that part later. Because of the need for fluids, on Wednesday, Heidi was found to be very confused and struggling to breathe. She required transfer to the ICU where she was intubated and put on a machine to breathe for her as all the fluids that they needed to give her to treat the DKA overloaded her and put her into respiratory failure. She remains in the ICU.

We are asking first and foremost for prayers and standing on the word of God that she be completely healed. When she leaves the hospital, she is still going to need a kidney transplant and remains on the waitlist for that. As you can imagine, her care is quite complex, and we are asking for help with expenses to help provide relief for the family.
